Understanding The Different Skype Lingo

The words name and username seem to mean different things for Skype

When reading tutorials online about how t change your Skype Name and How to change your Skype username, the Lingo gets jumbled up!

I don't know why but for some reason, Skype tends to use the different words to mean different things. So here are the explanations for both!

Skype Name: Unlike other services like Facebook or Google, Skype name doesn’t necessarily mean your name (like it appears on your ID or passport). According to Skype, Skype name is actually your Skype ID. The unique identifier of your Skype account. It’s what most people call Skype username.
So Skype name, Skype ID and Skype username all mean the same thing; at least according to Skype.

Skype Display Name: This is the name that represents your account. It’s not necessarily unique to each account but it’s what represents you. It’s your name. It’s what services like Facebook call ‘Facebook Name’; so it’s easy to confuse it with Skype name.
Your Skype display name is what appears when you call someone or send them a Skype message.

So the next time you're reading a Skype tutorial, make sure you have this information at the back of your mind so that you don't change your Skype username while actually intending to change the Skype account name.
