How To Know Whether Facebook Is Down

or it's just you

So you go to Facebook.com like you normally do, but you discover, you can’t access Facebook for one reason or the other.

And you don’t know whether it’s your internet connection, your app or even your Facebook account. Or maybe Facebook is down.

And if you think Facebook is down, here’s how to find out whether Facebook is really down or it’s just you;

1. Check Facebook’s Platform status Page
This is a page designed to specifically monitor the status of Facebook and it’s servers. It shows whether Facebook is currently up and running, also shows different parameters like response time, error rate and the health history for the past 90 days.

My problem with this page, is that it’s hosted on Facebook so if there’s an issue it might not be reported in real time. Just my thoughts.

2.Check Facebook’s Twitter Handle!

Facebook is on Twitter. And if Facebook is down, it means they can’t communicate through Facebook so they normally use Twitter to announce any outages and downtimes.

Go to Twitter and find their @facebook and find out if they have put out any official communication.

I like this because it has nothing to do with Facebook and their servers. Which means Facebook can communicate in real time if there’s an issue.

You can also check user generated tweets by following hashtags like #facebookdown or #fbdown just to see if other people are experiencing facebook outtages.

3. Use Third party status checkers like Down detector, currently down.com to see if Facebook is experiencing issues.
Users can comment on their issues and you can check to see how many people are experiencing issues.
Soome will eveen show a heat map so you can see which regions are experiencing problem with facebook.

If you can’t find any significant information in all three checks i’ve described, then the problem is likely on your end. Probably browser cookies, issues with your computer, issues with your Facebook account;anything really! But Facebook isn’t down!
